Video Test Reference Architecture

Reference Architecture

Video Test Reference Architecture Overview

This video test system is designed to acquire or generate both analog (component, composite, S-Video) and digital (DVI and HDMI) video signals to verify the functional quality of a device under test such as a set-top box, DVD player, or high-definition television. This system comprises both hardware and software components.

The system hardware consists of instruments for analog video acquisition (digitizers), analog video generation (arbitrary waveform generators), and digital video acquisition and generation (high-speed digital I/O). You can modify the system to include additional modules for more video channels or include instruments for audio analysis. You can use a PXI RAID array to store hours of video data with fast streaming rates for full-motion video tests.

The system software consists of a driver component to configure and control the analog or digital instruments to properly interpret a video signal. You can use the test management software, which handles test execution, to create repeatable measurement sequences and add limits, increasing system throughput. The analysis software features many functions for analyzing or manipulating video data or for creating custom algorithms for specific video measurements. National Instruments also offers complete preconfigured video test systems for analog or digital video tests.
